My last weekend at the track resulted in the cars fastest pass.
12.3 @ 117 MPH 18 psi, on pump gas
I only managed to net 1.95 60' foot times which is horrible. The car has 275 nitto 555r's and i want my 60' to be atleast 1.8 The problem is i am running a t-61 without a launch control.
I was launching from around 6000rpm friday and saturday. Saturday afternoon the track had warmed up so i tried launching from 7000 rpm. The car hooked, jumped off the line, then banged and bounced to a stop.

here is some of the wreckage

There is a second smaller patch were another 6-7 teeth are missing.

After the diff blew up the U-joint snapped and the driveshaft flew sideways wrapping up the E-brake cable. As far as i can tell the transmission is fine but i am still very concerned.

This is now my second LSD i have destroyed. I think this one will be rebuildable. I no i cant blame the LSD launching from 7000.

I'm such a pansie...........I launch mine from about 4500rpm.............

Good luck rebuilding it or replacing it. You should be able to get a 1.8 60' rather easily with those tires. I have the nitto 555r's and I've had a 1.84 60'. I usually run about 16psi of air in mine depending on the track prep. I"m not a drag racer though so maybe I should run more or less air to do better.

Looks like its time to lose the drag radials and get some ET Steets or ET drags. The only way you are breaking diffs like that is by having damaged gears to start or axle hop off the line.

On a side note in all seriousness, how does the pinion look?

I sheered 3 teeth off the pinion in my old toyota truck because of the stupid fucking crush sleeves they use on all toyotas stock that wear out...

If it's not rebuildable, if you get another one have it rebuilt and make sure it's done with a spacer. It's cheap insurance. Hopefully you can see supraforums cause here's the link to how it's done and this guy knows his stuff when it comes to drag racing.

Hope that helps.

Thanks for the link poodles.

The diff was not damaged and the car does not axle hop.

It simply wouldnt leave the line fast under vaccum
I realy wanted to stress the rear end of the car because launching under boost next year will be a whole different story. My goal for the weekend was a 1.8 60' or break something trying. Unfortunately the car gave out, however, under boost next year i am confident a 1.8 60' will be easy.

I have found 4.88 gears on ebay. Has anyone used these? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Supra-4-88-Drag-Rear-Gear-set-LSD-Mk3-MA70-Cressida_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trkparmsZ72Q3a1205Q7c66Q3a2Q7c65Q3a12Q7c39Q3a1Q7c240Q3a1318QQ_trksidZp3286Q2ec0Q2em14QQhashZitem200267301367QQitemZ200267301367

I am afraid 4.88 will be WAY to short with a R154. I already run 118 mph at 6400 rpm in fourth.
What do you guys think?

im sure that pinion walked... Check the bearing preload on the pinion at this point it might be done but at least its something to consider...my last trip to the track i got the crush sleve colapsed cause the diff started whining.. I stoped at that point but my best 60ft was 1.700.

Yep, the crush sleeve is definately a week point with torque...

31" tires, 4.11 gears and a nice low range destroyed it in my truck, so I don't doubt a healthy supra would do the same...

I am going to throw in my 3.73 lsd.
But do i wanna rebuild the 4.30 with stock toyota parts? a few guys have run 1.6 60' footers and 700+whp through them.
I also have a gear shop pricing out some detroit lsd's for me. But the detroit diffs use spider gears which really scare me for launching.
