If you bought a turbo elbow and downpipe assemble the elbow and downpipe and then bring it up through the bottom of the car. I did the top bolts first on the elbow and then I used a gear wrench (a must have for our cars) the gear wrench will make your life MUCH easier.

I reserve a huge smack on the back of mdcs head for not suggesting I buy a set of line wrenchs when installiing the braided hoses on my turbo... (the crows foot line wrench works insanely well on the lines at the block)

I cant use my heat shield on the BIC downpipe I have though it just doesnt work.

^ Good idea, install the dp and elbow at the same time the bolt onto the turbo ;). Or you could get an integrated dp and elbow, but that would be wasting money ;).

How do you get the god dam lower inside bolt off the elbow! i just bought a set of crafstmen ratcheting wrenchs for 60$ and there isnt enough space to let it ratchet over after it moves once. This is frustrating the hell out of me. Im 2 secs away from getting my sawzall and just cutting the elbow off completely. That way i can at least use a socket.

^LOL, You shoulda seen me getting mine off ;). Get the socket on the bolt, now (this is from under the car) get your monkey arms limbered up. Contort your arm until you can reach the wrench (a buddy up on top helps out a lot here to keep the wrench from falling off) and push the wrench as hard as you can towards the fender well. WARNING: You will have to move your hands around into some awkward positions to do this. Once the wrench hits the fender well (I think that's what i was hitting, couldn't really see up in there), have your buddy up top to take the wrench off and push it back towards you. I used a regular wrench (12mm or 14mm iirc, can't rmember). It's a real PITA, so use some gloves as this can be painful on the palm of your hand ;).

Good luck!

Are you talking about on the turbo or on the downpipe? Please take the downpipe and elbow off as one peice. I lost my mind trying the seperate 'finger skin remover' technique.

It takes patience to get the engine side bolts off. Its not that bad you just need to go slow

How can anyone work on anything without a set or three of these miracle devices? :icon_bigg

Flex heads, a straight set, and a set of mini's and you're good to go. I wouldn't trade my gear wrenches for my Supra.
