door/ powered rear view mirror/ glass

yesterday some kind soul smashed my side mirror glass whilst the car was parked (1988 turbo.pearl).

has anyone successfully replaced just the mirror glass without getting a new assembly?

If the mirrors are remotely like the MR2 mirrors of the era, its possible.

In the center is a ball which holds it in, and the 2 adjusting arms that also pop in for the electric controls.

Just be very careful when removing the replacement, as if you flex it at all it will shatter.
Also on install, DO NOT press with a few fingers use your entire hand pressing flat and in the center, or again it will shatter it.

Yes, I did this a long time ago on my passenger side. It was a pain, but possible. I recall the glass is in a holder with 3 balls on the back. Those balls snap into the motor assembly, which was the hard part. The EPC backs up my memory. 87908 or 87909 is the part you want.

It sounds a lot like the MR2's described by steveaw11.

or u could go to the junkyard and just take the insides out and replace that. seeing that a new mirror from toyota is 240$
