door molding idea--what do you think?

grsupra87

Let's go Pens!!
My door moldings are pretty wavy from the metal support inside them being rusted. There's absolutely zero rust on the doors however. I have had no luck finding moldings, so I have this idea. I'm wondering if I can cut the moldings off the metal, and then put them on the door with weatherstrip adhesive. Does this sound feasible? Or am I grasping at straws. What do you think?

I bought all new for my 82, talk about walking bow-legged..... dayum..... A local guy just went out and bought the door molding on a roll, I'm not sure where he got it, but other than not having the little "lines" or whatever you want to call them, it looks stock, and would no doubt be less than $100, or the price for one of the 1.5' long peices for the fenders..... Hell, that's what I'm doing, F paying all that money to Toyota, or trying to find old stuff, that looks half-way decent a peice or two at a time......

Go cheap.... save the money for mods, or an mkII or something :biglaugh:

yea i'm curious how he did the rear tho.... it would look funny having the trim at the bottom of the taillight and no trim around the rest of the car

but to the first post... i'm also wondering if that will work.. the other i'm thinking of is completely rust killing the whole thing then for the metal brackets that are broken i was going to epoxy the plastic clips back into the trim

hows that for a new theory :p

p.s. reason i won't go 89+... 87 moulding is sexy and here in nz... the only year that trim came on was 87... so here.. it's rare ;)
