Door Latch Issue

anyone out there know why my drivers door won't unlock when the door is all assembled, but unlocks fine if you take the latch assembly out of the door? i can find anything wrong, but i can see the rod in the door refuses to unlock the latch so it will free the door to close.

Rod could be bent.

nope, that's not it. it's somewhere in the covered area just below the actual latch. something sticking inside, but i can't see what with it off. and i definitely couldn't see it installed.
