I have an 88 and the PO said that someone tried to break into it and broke the door handle. I found one from a 91 on line, will it fit? I read somewhere that they were changed in 89 so I am trying to verify.

This is a tough one... most of the different part numbers are year restricted because they are color coded, so for instance, you cannot buy an early model door handle in turquoise, however, that is because that color wasn't available before '91.
Looking at a color that was available for the entire year span, (grey) it looks as though they are the same part number through the entire range.
The lock cylinder changed, but that's a different part number. Also, the only change was the light around the locks, IIRC, and that's really not that important, especially as everyone should be running keyless entry with a modern day alarm anyway.
