Eh - so what if he's gay? People have the right to be happy. If he called a press conference to stop the behind the scenes whispering, i'd say thats a good enough reason.
I'm fine with people being gay, but keep it private. I don't like the attitude of most gays that I have come across, I think that they are way too public about it. Just be gay and don't tell me about it.
