Does it sound like a BLOWN HG? Does the head look bad? Or a CRACKED Block?

A buddy of mine gave me this and said it had a cracked block, he didnt want to deal with it anymore. It was in his SC and had a leaking coolant line and he drove it some, not sure for how long or how far.

So I started to tear it down and got everything disassembled but cant tell if it has a Blown HG, Bad-CRACKED warped head or a CRACKED BLOCK. The head looks to be OK but has rust inside, must've got water-coolant in it. Its been sitting for awhile. No visible signs of cracks anywhere on the head.

Im not sure what a Blown HG looks like and the block looks good so far. I need to turn the crank tomorrow to see if Cylinder 1 and 6 are damaged. The inside cylinders looks to be OK. Would the crack be inside the Cylinder wall hence cracked block?

Ive done basic repairs but nothing like this before. Does anything look out of the norm? A little advice and what you think of the pics would help.

Number 1 spark plug came out nasty but the rest were OK.

i figured i would reply since i am waiting on the plumber to fix my water heater. well by the looks of the oil build up or sludge on the head not rust, im about positive he didn't change the oil very often or the motor has very high miles. the valves look as if you may have a valve seal issue or at least a fueling issue. i do not see signs of a bhg unless you have wiped off the pistons, to me the piston tops all look even maybe a ring replacement i only say that because they do look as if the tops have a light coat of oil on them but i would not worry about it unless you are blowing smoke once the motors running. as far as a crack in the block i say take it to your local machine shop and have them magnaflux the block that way you will know for sure.

none the less i'm no expert so take what i say with a grain of salt

None of the cylinders look to be steam cleaned (easy way to spot a BHG or cracked head/block)
I always thought that was just a signature of 7m's, until I cracked open my 1j when I got it...

IJ has a point though, if you had a bhg, it's almost a guarantee that your pistons would be REALLY clean. At least the ones where the gasket blew and leaked coolant into...
