Does Exhaust manifold leak = decreased boost?

Hello All,
I have an exhaust leak in area of exhaust manifold on my 87 Turbo. I first noticed it last fall, now it is louder. According to my search, cracks happen occassionaly but gaskets leaks are more common. We just pulled her out of the garage after a long Minnesota winter and I am anxious to start another summer of adding mods. Today on the way home I was only able to boost at .75 bar. Typically when she is realy running smooth 1.2 or 1.4 is not a problem. Can this leak decrease my boosting? I have limited mechanical abilites, so please don't rip me too bloody.

Thanks,

Dan

i would think that a pre turbo leak would not help your boosting. kinda like driveing around with your wg cracked open alittle. why not make that your first project for this summer?

Yes,
The plan is to take her apart and fix it, power/ceramic coat the intercooler pipes, along with a bunch of other parts. The install my fuel/pressure regulator, air fuel regulator, then to dyno for tuning. I have heard impressive h/p gains with proper a/f ratios. Can't wait.

lets think about this logically shall we?

exhaust gases spin turbo. If gases are escaping prior to getting to turbo, then that means LESS gases to spin turbo! :)
