so Does anyone use any engine oil additives? has anyone actually seen any improves in performance or gas mileage by adding this. i was thinking about putting "engine restore and lubricant" in my car. i heard there were lawsuits against 50slick and duralube for not living up to what the products says it does. so i dont think im going to try those products. any opinions or experiences would be greatly appricated. thanks

First question is > why use additives?
They just cost a bunch more and it still has to be drained @ the oil change time.
I just use straight Synthetic > Mobil1 and have never had any issues. I use it without any problems of seals going bad or such.Never.
This is after swithcing from regualr oils...

i used lucas oil back on my old 86 jetta diesel (was my dads technically but i drove it more then him as he had his subaru then) and it increased my compression alot and made cold starts a hell lot easuer due to the raised compression!

Check out Bitron on SF. This stuff is electrically charged, and actually sticks to the metal giving it an extra layer of protection. I was so impressed with the bench test that I plan on adding it on my next oil change which is this Sat. Everyone I have talked to swears by the stuff. You should check it out.:slap: It will give that turbo some extra protection!!!

Read up on some of the bitron threads, then make the decision for yourself... I'll consider using it after someone has been running it in their supras and does some tests on their oil after every change for several thousand miles (this may never happen though).

At least somebody gets it. There are no magic additives that the oil company forgot to ad. Do not waste your money.

What about all of the conspiracy theories saying "the oil companies are in it with the manufacturers", and that basically they want your engine to wear out prematurely so that the parts manufacturers stay in business...? :naughty:

If a consumers product fails prematurely, the consumers often loose faith and stop buying. That and Toyota says to do oil changes every 5000 or 10,000 miles, depending on what car you have. So I don't see the conspiracy with oil.

Didnt read this whole thread, but through my experience, research, and learning in school (UTI) Modern oils have tons of additives to do plenty to protect your motor. If you are worried about the oil or your motor just use good oil... like mobile 1 or something. Thicker oil doesnt help much, it actually has a better chance of wearing the oil clearances a little because its harder for the oil to flow. Just do your normal 3k mile changes and dont use shitty fram oil filters and you should be fine. And if you have oil leaks, like seals or anything, just fix em and youll be fine.

Yes, I know...I was being facetious...notice the ":naughty:" smiley?

Yeah I figured you was... ;) But I had to post it up here anyways for others who would try and bring up a debate on this when there's already one active.

In my experience, well over 95% of additives are pretty useless. We do an internet TV show and have tested all the popular name brands, which failed or extreme wear test. See the thread in the link posted by starscream, to hear some feedback from Supra owners using additives.
