I come from a land down under
I ran one mounted on the Trans Tunnel in my 240z and it saved my life in an accident when I had the presence on mind to shut it off just before impact.

I had just filled the car with fuel so it had 100 litres/26 gallons of Gas and another 20 litres/5 gallons on board and in the accident it was a rearwards impact which pushed the lower control arm into the Tank slicing a huge gash.

(you can see it's red handle just behind the brake balance knob)

heh, patience is a virtue. this board is the most helpful i've ever come across in terms of the mkIII. as far as i know, it's just a large kill switch in line with one of the battery cables. i know nothing about them, because i dont want one. (why? you ask?) because every time you kill power to the car, it re-sets the ECU.

i know you're probably only using it for the track, or to pass inspection for the track, but that's my reasoning, and i dont go to the track... :) perhaps someone else who's more knowledgable can chime in.

edit: ian beat me to it! :)

well, every time you reset the ECU, it has to relearn everything. it wont run "perfectly" until it's done re-learning. :) think of when you pull the EFI fuse when you clear the codes. think of how different feeling the car is.

yayyyyyyy info, thanks guys haha, yeah i know about the ecu resetting problem, but hopefully i'll never have to use the switch... i just need it for inspection/safety purposes. anyone else able to chime in with a little more info about running it inline with the battery cables because in my head the way i see it is now tell me if this is wrong then

main power to the 1 stud on the switch, and power out to the power side of the batter? and then the switch on "ON" closes the circuit for power and off obviously leaves the open curicut for no power????????????

I think you're supposed to have it in a spot where someone can just reach over and smack it easily if say, you're unconceous(sp?) from an accident. Thats as far as making it race legal, AFAIK.

You pretty much have it... Put one on the car and don't use it if you only need it for safety. The switch is only a bridge for the current just like you said in a post or two ago. Look at summit racing's web site, they have lots of them.

yes it has to be in the back and if your track goes by NHRA rules (not sure about IHRA) it hast to kill the motor and everything. in my ecplise i just ran it from the battery wie going to the front and when i went for inspection i took of my alternator battery wire. then go hook it back up after inspection. get 1 with a removal switch because ppl are stupid and think its funny to turn it off when your parked and i hate redoing all my radio presets and equilerz and shit.

This is a pic of my lever switch from Flaming River.. Its mounted under the rear STB and then the arm attached to it has been lengthened.. at the track i remove the rear licence plate and attach the arm in a hole i drilled in the back of the car..
