Does anyone here use Solidworks?

All i need to do - is make a Simple shape, a 4 sided flange, with curved 'corners' as it were. Like a stretched diamond, the only thing is - i've been fiddling with solidworks for hours, i can make everything i need to, but on a rectangle, or a circle, i can't make this shape - solidworks only seems to do circles/rectangles or polygons side of things.

I thought i could make a square/rectangle, and grab the points on each side to make the shape i needed - but i cant see a way of doing that either - i'm stuck!

in the part, i made a sketch with a rectangle that controls the overall size of the diamond and then added a sketch fillet to the corners.

its easier if you draw your shape freeform (ie, not vertical or horizontal lines) in the sketch, then add dimensions to control the lines, and then extrude the sketch. you can add bolt holes later with the hole wizard (my favority part of solidworks)

Bunch of ways to do it. Don't start with a square. Do a plane with constrution lines making a cross. Manually draw lines on 4 corners, on the construction lines, use smart dimension to measure the geometry.

i figured it out - rather than trying to make the shape, and then sink the holes into it - i make the holes first, sorted out all the distances and the like, and then used points, and the spline tool to make the rest of it. Have a look:

Now i just need someone to make it

Neat, this looks similar Autodesk Inventor, I used to fool around with that program for hours.

Second go at the CT26 oil feed/drain flange - this time, instead of being setup for weldable JIC fittings, the holes are sized to be ready for M10 and M20 taps, so you can screw in JIC adaptors.

Cross section - note that this time i've added a 0.75mm fillet to each hole, in the case of the oil feed & drain, it'll aid in flow - the screw holes, i hope not!

if you want to get them made, check out the RFQ (request for quote) section of the CNCzone.com forums. You should be able to find someone, maybe even a small hobby shop, to make it for you.
