Do you have a self imposed 'policy' on what you pay for used parts?

I do, I won't pay more than 60% of the lowest price I can find for a part, regardless of close to a 'like new' condition it is in.

For instant, let's say I was looking at buying two part from the same person, which I can find for $315 & $71 on the 'net, I would offer him $225 if the parts look to be in good condition, even if the guy said he paid $400 & $100 for them...

Does any one else think along these lines?

Yes, I use a similar strategy. IMO, a used part is worth 50% of the new value, less if it's in rough shape, more if it's in mint shape.

I'll play with the parameters a bit for big (or very low) $$$ purchases, or wear items, etc. For instance, I'll probably take a 30% savings on a $1000 item, because it still adds up to a large amount.

On the other hand, I probably will not go for a 60% savings on a $100 item. I'll just suck it up and buy a new one.

That's more or less my EXACT strategy!

I'd pay around 70% of retail (including shipping and whatnot) if the part is mint. But there's still other things like rarity and availability that would factor in.

How I feel as well. I'm sure I paid near retail for my mint HKS TEMS controller, but it falls in the rare category. I also shop around and wait. For instance, I just scored a brand new red on white Greddy boost gauge that reads to 30PSI for 61 bucks shipped, because I waited on a good deal. Thats like nearly 70% off, and it's still in the package.

We're most MK3 owners after all :sarcasm: but yes! I also have the same mind set when buying used parts or other things.

I pay what's it's worth to me...no special rules. I also tend to not under cut people often...if someone has something forsale that I'd like but I don't have the asking price on hand then I'll tell them what I have to spend at that given moment and either they hold the part for me, take my money, or sell to someone else!
