To do a good 1j swap do i really have to use a 2jz water pump and fan? Or is it just a choice? If i don't change them is it going to effect me in the long run?

it's just a choice. the only way i can see it affecting u in the long run is when the hydro fan system breaks down. it's kinda hard to source parts for the hydro fan set up. if u change to electric fans u will gain a couple horses from taking off the hydro fans.

Is there anything else you guys think should be done before the 1jz is put into the car besides the y pipe?

Gaskets!!!

At a minimum do the rear main (same as 2JZ) and lower oil pan (FIPG) while it's out.

hydro fan works great. Dont fix it if it aint broke

Do the rear main seal at least. Check the clutch. Mine was rocked.
Check the turbos before you drop the motor in too.,

I may be my stock turbos soon. Dunno how quickly you need them though.

Some have done those turbo swaps on the 1j.. I dunno exactly how to do it.. but use that search option here.. and on supraforums. I'm sure someone has it posted up.
