Its not a fun / cheap job to swap struts, so why do it twice? Many people who have lowered their car on stock struts blow within a year, often much less.

Get some KYB GR2s off ebay for $125 at worst.

be safe and jsut buy new struts. Not only that, but the struts and spring will break in together instead of spring breaking in on old struts. Not good if your putting eibach or any lowering spring onto an old factory strut.

I have KYB GR-2's in the back and KYB AGX adjustables in the front (made for MK4 not MK3) but they fit perfectly. I think they are great with my eibach's. I'll eventually get a complete coilover kit, but I have other things to put that ca$h to and my current set up is great for the driving I do. I also recommend payin the 225-250 for a set of ST sway bars. GREAT addition to your suspension.

If you're going to change the springs, change the struts too.
It took me about half a day to change my struts. Its not a difficult job.
If I remember, the rear were a pain because I had to remove the interior lining to get to the nuts. The cover openning in the lining was too small.
The thing that scared me about it was compressing the springs.
