Alright, well Im getting ready to drop the 7m into my Supra and I looked in the TSRM to find out how to line up the distributor gear. It says look for a protrusion(spelling?) on one of the gear teeth and line it up with the notch on the housing. But....there is NO protrusion on any of my distributor gear teeth. Read the Haynes manual and that thing is 100% useless. Quote: "Install the distributor the same way you took it out." Some people say line up the drill hole in the gear with the notch but it wont line up exactly 100% its always pointing on one side of the hole(kind of clicks like a electric motor). Any help would be greatly appreciated. The 7m is going in tonight and I cant wait to hear it for the first time! THANKS MUCH!

Yeah, i think it's the drill hole and the notch if I remember correctly. it might not line up perfectly but that's why it has the pivot bolt, just try to line it up as best you can and then slide it in nice and easy (make sure the engine is set to TDC). You might want to try it a few times. Slide it in and then carefully pull it back out and check to see if it moved. Piece of cake.

You might try putting the rotor in place, and the cap, and lining up the rotor to #1 terminal. Make a mark on the outside edge of distributor housing.
Then install dist. with rotor in place and cap removed. You will need to rotate the shaft a bit to the left (counter-clockwise) of #1 marking first, as the gear will move to the right as it meshes with the cam gear.
