hi all, i've started working on the head gasket on my 88 supra na today. i followed the TSRM and aligned the crankshaft then took out the distributor. when i cleaned it, i couldn't find any mark for alignment on the gear. the TSRM (IG-19) says that i'm supposed to align the groove on the housing with the protrusion on the gear when installing the distributor. but my distributor doesn't have this mark on the gear. how can i align it then? is there another way to align it? btw, it's an original toyota distributor.

thx for any help!

You basically need the rotor to point to the no1 cylinder/spark plug wire. Hint it's it will twist when you push the dust in.

^yeah the mark your looking for is on a turbo's CPS. On a NA you just do it the old fashion way.

that's what i thought after doing some googling. people are aligning distributor in this way on old cars. so when i install the distributor, i first align the crankshaft to 0 mark, then point the rotor to the center of #1 cylinder wire plug. is that right?

the TSRM from a 90 supra says there's a mark on the gear for na version too. i guess because mine is older, so it doesn't have this mark.

maybe my distributor is different because it's older.
