digital camcorder question

I got a digita camcorder thats about 3 yrs old, it takes the little DV tapes.

I seen buckethead a few yrs ago an taped, it,
I tried to put it on my hrd drive so I can put it on disc

i have some program that was transfering it, but , withing minuets, it was up to like a few gig !!!!! wtf...

how do you guys transfer digita camcorder recordings to your hard drive without it taking up your entire h/d

I wanna put on my p/c an also put it eirther on dvd or just a cd=r....


wanna do this before the tape deteriorates....

It depends on how you are streaming it to your PC. I used to stream it uncompressed so there were not glitches to the video, once it was on the comp I converted it to AVI or something similar for a smaller size.

Pretty much yes.
Uncompressed video and audio will take up tons of space.
Until you compress it, it will be huge.

This is why I bought a HDD camcorder..it does compression into mpg on board and keeps the files down to a smaller size.

I have the same problems with my camcorder, but wouldn't trade it for anything. Its one of the origional sony nightshots. (The ones they quickly took off the market because if nightvision was used in the daytime, you can see through clothes and swimsuits. HE HE HE)
