Hi Guys

Search the forum and found nothing similar to this

Wanted to know the differences between the 87-89 7MGTE & 90-92 7MGTE. Through my adventure of replacing parts for the car Ive found out that a few things such as the 02 sensor are different. Recently have also found out that the TPS is different as well.

It occurred to me that these differences may only occur because of the different ecu used in the two time periods. I know for a fact the 87-89 ecu was different from the 90-92 one (hac sensor inside ecu instead of under glove box etc).

Am I right in thinking this or does the 7m have actual mechanical differences between the 87-89 and the 90-92 model?

Anyone know or have any links to the other differences between the two 7m's in different time periods?

If possible, are you able to tell me which version of the 7m I have if there are indeed mechanical differences between the early model 7m and the later one?

Using the online
epc you can find a ton of parts differences.

Many electronics are different, crank is different, block is different, ecu obviously, wire harness.. Etc.

Engine itself is the same, components are different. Makes sense due to the different cold start sensor, O2 sensor, etc. for the difference of these parts in the EPC.

Actually, the vast majority of the parts just change over the life of the engine. The TPS, for instance, doesn't change with the usual 89 split, it changes twice. Both the block and the head had multiple revisions, put into production at several points over the life of the engine. If you take pics of the side of the block, we can usually identify what revision you are running - but to be frank, for the most part it doesn't really matter.
