difference in tranny?

the gearing is alittle different as seen here:

the r154 is stronger, i hear it can handle like 800hp. whereas the w58 can only do like 400.

the clutch setups are different as well as the means of engagement. the w58 is a push type, whereas the the r154 is a pull type. the difference in holding power is due to the input shaft size difference. (r154 is larger)
the r154 is also a bit longer, and the output shaft splines are different from the w58. also, the first half of the drive shaft is shorter than on the w58.
AAAAND, the r154 is from the manual turbo cars, and the w58 is from the manual N/A cars.
