Difference in tail light length (89+)

Does anybody know if there is a difference in length of the 89+ tail lights based upon chassis (GA/MA series)? The reason I ask is that I have a set of JDM 89+ tails (not the dark ones) and they seem to be a bit short. Now, I can't recall exactly how snugly the tail lights fit when I removed them, but the black rubber on the edge of the light (not the tail light gasket itself) does not contact the body of the car. If this gap is normal, let me know, but as far as I can recall, the lights should fit snug to the body of the car.

I have 89+ JDM tails on my car and they seem to fit perfectly...maybe your rubber end gaskets have just shrunken with age? I know my tails took a bit of coaxing to get them to sit perfectly...a couple taps with an open palm in the right spots seemed to do the trick for me. :)

no, nothing has shrunk, there is approximately 3 mm clearance between the end of the tail light and the quarter panel.

see if there is any gap between the tail light and quarter panel. A high-res picture would probably answer this better for me.

a tad shorter would be ~5 mm, not visibly noticeable when the cars are side-by-side. Although, I can't see why toyota would manufacture two different sets of slightly different tail lights. (tooling and mold-making = spendy)

lol, my car has had a ton of body work done to the rear quarters, but I know the way it was done. That part of the quarter panel was not touched, and I think it would be more noticeable had it warped significantly from welding. I guess I'll have to wait and see until the next time I'm out at the car.

You're missing the gaskets...

Not the main gaskets that everyone replacse, but there are gaskets that go around the edge of the lights as well...

There isn't a separate part number for em either, so if you can send em back saying they are missing parts....

wtf is narrow body?

Its a jdm only supra, without the flared front and rear wings that all usdm/euro market etc supras had!!! the side of the car looks flat, they are narrower than a std mk3 so much do that sawblades sit flush with the arch lip on front and back! and look very purposeful.

Took some pics last night for ya. Keep in mind though, that these are on there without gaskets or all nuts holding 'em on at the moment, and the driver's rear quarter has been worked on. Also, these are JDM tails on the car, but they're identical in size to the USDMs that are sitting in the trunk right now.

those pics are perfect! thanks a bunch - it looks like there is a little bit of clearance between the light (and the rubber gasket) and the quarter panel - that is pretty much the way mine look.

poodles, the lights actually do have those gaskets.
