Specifically what info are you looking to get out of it? More than just error codes I presume?

The pinout is printed under the cover of the diag port. As for what values and ranges you should expect from each line I cannot help. I believe our diag port is CAN based though.

I'm sorry I can't offer more info...I don't know of anyone who's done what you're looking to do.

I'm not 100% certain about the system using a CAN bus. A reliable source of info when it comes to Toyota electronics insists that it is.

I'd been doubting the CAN thing and yes, I know our cars don't have either ODB variant. There are plenty of things you could monitor (including: timing, throttle position, knock and the o2 sensor (although a narrowband o2 sensor's a bad source of data)) using a simple serial interface...

But again, is it worth it? It's not going to give you near as good an idea of what's going on with your car as an ODB II datalogger would. But, the point still stands that YES something could be made... weak though it may be.

are you so sure about being able to monitor timing with a "simple serial interface"?

they JUST figured out how to monitor timing with the MAFTpro.

With the Vetronix tool, you can watch the oxygen sensor switch for fun. If you want serial data, get a DSO, and run the pick up on the different readings you want at the ECU.

The MA70 became OBD level one compliant. Not level two of course.

Sorry just saw this... MAFT Pro's has timing monitoring for ages... it's timing control they just added and YES you can rather simply monitor timing via a serial port, it's just a pulsed signal.
