Took my car for a few hard runs last weekend before having to put it away for the winter. At 5500+ RPM in 3rd and 4th gear, i was hearing what seemed like a rattle, which at the time, sounded like it was coming from the transmission (un-dampened sogi shifter currently). Later on, after thinking about it for a while, it dawned on me that I might have been hearing detonation. What is the best way to confirm this (for somebody who is unfamiliar with the sound of detonation)? That may have been my last day on the stock ECU, but I'm just wondering for interest's sake.
Here is the current set-up:
60 trim ct/turbonetics hybrid turbo running 13lbs off internal wastegate (no active ebc)
large intercooler
550/lexus
94 octane fuel
10.4:1 AFR in the upper RPM range
Leaking valve stem seals
Stock base timing
Because I'm on 94 (R+M/2) octane, I'm having a hard time beleiving that I'm detonating at 13 psi, however, I seriously doubt the capabilities of the 550/lex set-up due to the lack of timing control.
I'll be pulling and evaluating the plugs on the weekend, but any additional input is helpful.
