woohoo, dash is still dead.
long story short, swapped in a GTE, took out the dash to drop in the turbo tach, put it back together, and now the only things that work are the lights.
some of them.
all the warning lights <ebrake, check engine, etc> work fine, ditto for the far right side illumination....
but no guage activity at all.
checked the rheostat, its all good...
everything seems to be connected to the ecu just fine....
any ideas?

thanks in advance.

check with a multimeter if you're getting power at all the plugs for the dash. at least then you can narrow it down some... good luck man, you've got me stumped, unfortunately. i've been following your SF thread, and still dont have any ideas, but i'll keep thinking!

hit the plugs with a multimeter...
well, everything that had a ground on that plug, since I dont know shit about electrical stuff...
most of them had some juice running....
in the process of trying dash combination 3 right now.
jesus, it never ends, lol.

fresh dash numero Three....
same as before.
the temperature guage goes dead when Im in gear, and hits the top when Im in neutral...
:dunno:

no freakin clue, except the totally improbable possibility that I may have a bad ECU?
<pure conjecture, no freaking clue>

I had a similar issue when I swapped in my GTE......what dash circuit board are you using? NA or turbo? I first started out with my turbo dash cluster modified to have the voltmeter in it, but the tach, temp and the rest didnt work. I took it out and reassembled the NA cluster with the turbo tach in it and it worked fine..........go figure.

were they from the same year as your car? the 91 GTE cluster I had didn't work with my 89......may have a few wires that are different.

this is Snow.... lowbudg has his shit hardwired lol.

anyway, the dash is from an 87....
went through and checked, no loose connections...
the closest I have to that is, near the ECU there are two plugs with no homes...
I assume at least one of them is ABS related <no ABS, no care>
these plugs have like 2-3 wires each, and I see no evidence of a place to plug em in...

not sure, but my fuel guage may actually be working right now, I'll have to fill her up and see...
other than that, my temp guage is moving randomly...

lol, nothing else to report except for an underhood fire today.

did you try checking the 'circuit breakers' in the kick panel?

mkay....
popped that bad boy out, reset it, tested for flow, looked good...
pop her back in.... same as before.

recap:
most of hte dash lights work, none of the guages do... temp guage is all over the place, Tach shakes for a second on startup, nothin else...
rheostat .... check!
gauge fuse.... check!
kick panel circuit breaker.... check!
no clue, thinking about going to a pro.... check!

ideas?
thanks

bumpity....
assuming... well, not sure what to assume, since the guages <TMK> dont go through the ECU, seems like there *should* be some retarded plug unhooked somwhere between the guages and the vauge area of 'inside some body part of the car'
fawk.
