dash went ~poof~

ok... I was doing some guesstimation wiring for an a/f gauge and I heard something break and now my dash wont illuminate. checked the fuses and nada (no longer have the cover so I just checked all under dash) should I re-wire it (if so what's the wire coming outta the back of the cluster) or is there something else I should check?
