Well I have been on here for a long time :: tumbleweed ::and I have never scene this done yet here on any of the supra based forums

since I have put some money/time into this head it was worth fixing and not given up on it

Well this is the crack started it all....I found out after I popped the exhaust seat out the crack went all that way into the port this was a big :kickinthenuts: I must say

p1714301_2.jpg

So after a fair of grinding all the way into the port :yikes: it was welded up then ball peed after each pass of filler rod to bring the slag up form the drity cast and you get this

p1714301_3.jpg

p1714301_4.jpg

looks like a mess eh  but she is not done yet so I sent the head off to get the new seat and valve cut in

p1714301_5.jpg

p1714301_6.jpg

p1714301_7.jpg

looks good so far but need alot of grinding smoothing and carving

fast forward 2 hours or so :burnout:you get this

p1714301_8.jpg

p1714301_9.jpg

p1714301_10.jpg

p1714301_11.jpg

p1714301_12.jpg

Well now it look like it was never cracked :: rave ::

sure I could have replaced the head but were is the fun in that

time for some :drink1::: alky :: and then maybe some ::hooters:: at the bar

then once I send it back to get the final plain done I am going to cc the head

I come from a land down under
Is it just me or are all of you blind? :nono:

Prediction: It'll crack either side of the weld the 1st heat cycle....

I only say this as to repair that properly would mean preheating the head to 500c before welding and milling to the full depth of the crack this in turn would make the head T0 (soft) so it would need to be reheat treated and to do this ALL the steel parts need to be removed/replaced.

Ian, I said it *looks* good, but I'm still excited to see how well the repair holds up. I've been impressed before. ;)

That said, I definitely wouldn't be doing this myself, this is some pretty brave territory... Good luck Nash!

well the sprint car's motor crack has not returned and that gets shit kicked all season long

this was done properly and with the right rod and very common at a head shop

I have no worries Ian I have scene fixed cylinder heads pumping 1000 blown horsepower and they hold up
for how long who knows but for the life of this cylinder head it will be good to go

just an idea these guys are crazy only do there own heads thou

Given that Ryan's average annual mileage on the Supra doesn't usually make double digits, this should hang on for years. ;)

Seems that every other badass 7m I know of is like this. Rebuild, enjoy, destroy, and repeat as needed. It's like laundry, really... :)
