So today we pulled the crankshaft harmonic balancer to see if that was the source to are 7m-gte "rod knock" source! Which it was, so we called looking for replacement part, No luck. So we decided to go to a junkyard and try our luck there! We found a 84 supra celica and it had 7 on the bolt. perfect we thought. Well to save you time this was nowhere near the same parts but we did come up with a very intresting way to remove a crankshaft pully when you have no way to hold it in place.
1. Take out the firs two spark plugs.
2. Remove the plastic timing belt cover.
3. Go to the car next to you and break off the pole that holds up the hood.
4. Look around and find misc. small bolts and nuts, we also used small rocks.
5.now for the hard part. to remove the pulley you have to have some tension to stop it from spining, so take the hood holder and bend it as straight as possible and put it in the first spark plug hole.
6. Shut the hood till it sits on the hood holder stick.
7. Pour misc. nuts bolt and rocks down the timing belt cover into the crankshaft tensioner and gears.
8. Then continue to turn crank until it locks up, usually when the hood goes as far as it can be pushed and the piston is not at TDC but still going up.
9. There you go, puts tension on the crank so you can get the pully off with out crawling under neith a car sitting on tires:biglaugh: :biglaugh: :icon_bigg !
10. Leave note so no one waste time trying pull a highly destroyed engine. make sure you pull the hood holder out and put in back seat for next guy to use!:evil2: :naughty: I have some Pictures of our job well done but to lazy to post!
Anyways this is intended to be a joke . We were in a bind and had to imprevise. So use at own risk! Hope this might help ya in a bind! Happy junkyard hunting lol!
