If you want to go real cheap, you can use mild steel. Will it last? No. Will it work? YUP!

Next from that is cast iron... does it work? YUP! Does it hold alot of heat? YUP! Are you yourself going to be able to weld it and make it work? Prolly not.

After that is stainless 304/308. Works? Yup! Expensive? YUP! Weld nice? YUP!

After that is titanium. WORKS THE BEST! Expensive? Try $5k for just a header. Weld nice? Not unless you know what the crap you're doing? Hard to bend and work with? You better believe it!

I come from a land down under
I only say this as for years I did "love jobs" for mates never charging and just saying hey "buy me a pizza or something".......

In all that time I may have received 1 maybe 2 pizza's so no longer do this and rarely do outside car work at all these days as there are just too many people with deep pockets and short arms!

If you find a Fabricator willing to help you out in this way he's worth his weight in gold but trust me even if he say's "free, nothing,no charge" The bare minimum should be a heartfelt "thanks" when the job is done!

These sort of "easy 5 minute" jobs always blow out in time materials and consumables all of which are coming out of the fabricators pocket.

True that. lol.
I, as a person who lacks certain skills that I wish I could achieve, am always especially grateful to those who help me out. There's always some money in it for anyone who does me a favor. Because, I mean, who wants to constantly help someone who doesn't make the job worthwhile?

I absolutely loathe doing something for someone and not getting anything in return. Not necessarily monetary-wise, but as Ian said, even a heartfelt "Thank You" is more than enough often times, for me...

well guys i thought about it for a while and when he does the mani ill probably give the guy some money anyhow thats just the way i am and if he does good work then ill send some people his way so he can make himself some money. he knows i appreciate it and who knows if it turns out good then he may be able to trademark it and sell it to big companies some day but nevertheless this deed will not go unrecognized thats for sure.
