I was just looking on ebay and saw that they had a cupholder that fits into the arm rest. Is this stock on 89+ models? i have an 87 and it sucks not having a cup holder. is there anyway to get a 89+ arm rest to fit in my 87

I think you have to replace the whole armrest.
I have a 91 with cupoholder and boought a pre89 armrest without the cupholder just because it was in better cond. Nothing fitted. The whole thing was different other then the mounting points of the armrest itself. I ended up having to pull the material from each unit to swap them so I could still use my center console

I wouldn't bother, its useless in my experience. It only holds like the bottom 1.5 inches of the cup, its awkward as hell to reach it while sitting in the seat.... you shouldn't be drinking in the car anyways! :)

Yea it was kind of Toyota's excuse of putting "dual cupholder" on the options list. The center lid has to be open for it to work and the few times I've had to use it I forget and go to lean on the armrest and oops...wet elbow :icon_mad:

Im custom making my own. Some good stiff plastic, cutt two holes large enough for a couple XL Coffee's and figure out a mounting points. It'll be easy if it was set up on a slider type mechanism. Vague? What I mean is that when you open up the console lid the cup holders will prevent it from falling back down by pressing up agains the front edge of the inner console box. Or even easier would be to find a hinge that would allow the consol lid to flip back 180 degrees and rest on the center of the back seat. Then you just need to make the cup holders sit flush with the inner walls.

I use that compartment with the spring loaded lib thats right behind the shifter on my 87 as a cupholder, kinda a PITA shifting, but it works.

^^^ yeah, that exactly what I was using before it became a PITA. Also my consol box became a storage bin for reciepts and other misc. crap. I though that by taking up most of the space with a functionable cupholder it will stop me from storing junk in there.

i have the 89+ cup holder's in my 87. its pretty easy. make sure you use the top center console lid. also you will need to pull out the peice from the center that the clip on the armrest goes to.

Well, since we're all saying what we use stuff for....

I use the TEMS little thing (because I don't have TEMS, so there is a little compartiment there) to place my cellphone. If I turn hard, it will fly off. Once I remove my equalizer from where the previous owner placed it, and put back the compartiment that the factory has under the CD Player, I will use it to play my cellphone, lol. I use my celphones (yes, two) in my pocket, and they're a pain to reach in a hurry with the seatbelt on. So I need it somewhere I can reach for it.

I use the other compartiment for coins, and an allen key for my steering wheel (the one that opens by pushing it down).

I use the armrest (no cup holder) for CD's, recipiets, a few tools and misc stuff.

I use the glovebox (lol, this is getting ridiculous) for my papers, owner's manual, and not too much stuff there.

AND I BET YOU WOULDN'T HAVE GUESSED THIS ONE: I use the little space where your fingers go, when you're going to open the armrest (in the picture that the poster above posted, it would be exactly where the lower-left corner of the white dialogue box he included points), for putting the little remote control for my garage door. That one is perfect, it never falls from there.

Madness, I know... ;)

i use my 89+ cupholders every day to hold my coffee on the way to work. I hated the fact that my 87 DIDN'T have a cupholder. IMHO it's really not worthless as long as you aren't trying to fit a XXXXXXXXXXL McDonalds soda in there.

BTW there is little to no drinking in my car and my tool box it the glove compartment!! there eare enough parts and gaskets in there to rebuilt the damn thing!!

I have the stock cup holders, but this is the one that holds my 20oz coffee mug and is easily removable for passengers :D
