i just bought a 89 turbo supra for my wife, just to find out that it has low compression and massive oil leaks. i've taken care of the motor problem. let me rephrase that, i've got someone going to put a new rebuilt motor in it. i drove the car tonight and the turbo seems to take forever to spool up to about 3 or 4 pounds. my 91 burries the gauge in about a second so does this mean that the turbo is shot, or can it have something to do with the motor running poorly? thanks.

Waste gate is probably old and degraded and will not close all the way.
My blown turbos with HUGE shaft play still happily boosted to 15lbs....
very quickly I might add! But blew out TONS of smoke!
All goes to say blown turbos are not the culpret of boosting problems...its the peripheral mechanicals that hinder the boost from climing higher/faster!
