OK even I cant figure this shit out... heres the background of how it got to this point....

recently upgraded a few parts on my computer, I now have

AMD Athlon XP 3200+ Processor
*(NEW)*ATi Radeon HD 2400 512mb card (AGP, OC'd 590mhz core and 540mhz memory speed)
*(NEW)*3gbs PC3200 DDR ram
*(NEW)* Antec EarthWatts 650w power supply

I HAD vista running when I installed all of this, then so I thought hey maybe I can play Crysis now...

I installed it, it wasnt working for shit under DirectX 10, would not load. So I ran it under DX9c, it loaded but the sound was choppy in every part of the game, made it unplayable.

Then about 2 days ago I just said fuck it, put XP back on, a deeply modified version of XP to slim it down... needless to say, my computer fucking flies now.

So I run crysis, loads the menus, and all that PERFECTLY, no sound issues, no lag. I go to start a new game, and it plays the opening sequence all teh way up until the part where it shows INSIDE the airplane, you see the floor (where the camera starts) for a split second, and all the sudden, reboots the entire computer.

*I have throttled back my video card
*I checked cpu and gpu temps, they were fine
*I have tried a hacked DX10 for XP, as well as the DX9c it comes with, same issue
*I have tried a saved game file from the net, the second the opening sequence to THAT level opens where some guys are standing around, reboots.

Im out of ideas guys, I can't figure out with a FRESH install at that... why the fuck im having a problem.

-Make sure you have all drivers updated.
-Make sure Crysis is patched
-Make sure you have the newest redist of DX

Looks like the CPU is going to be your bottleneck on your system, so I'm unsure if it will run. I should try it on my box as I'm kinda close to your setup...

My cpu is the current bottleneck,

My drivers, to my knowledge are up to date, I cant get DX10 from M$ on XP for some reason? The website detects my setup and gives me 9c. Crysis is @ 1.1, Im getting it to 1.2.1 right now to see if that works.

This is an actual legit version of Crysis?

That said, knock your settings down to bare minimum, to ensure it's not a problem with the card/drivers.

Which Catalysts are you running?

Settings are down to a BARE minimum. Right now my drivers are whichever ones came with that AGP Hotfix for my card, I dont know if its 8.9 or not.

EDIT: Catalyst version is 8.9

Trying the ATi Hotfix for Crysis under XP, something about it fixing random graphic corruption during gameplay... well see

So far, 1.2.1 update does not work, DX9c Redist Aug 2008, nothin. Playing in windowed mode instead, nothing.

Might just not have the power to pull it off...

A couple games I've played I had to go into the config files and tweak the piss outta them to get the settings even lower. Also, you can set global driver settings for the video card to get things even lower.

Global driver settings? From where?

See I ran the game in Vista, it got past this point.. same setup.... so how could that be it? I just had choppy sound issues.

Make sure you have your CPU drivers installed. I know it sounds stupid, but AMD has some CPU drivers that are required for games, crysis is one of these games. Also Direct X 10 is only allowed on vista.

Installed newest AMD Drivers, still crashes.

swapped mem sticks around, still crashes

ran memtest, didnt find any errors.

Im almost at a complete loss unless its the version of windows Im running, I mean, it is modified like crazy, maybe if I did a fresh install of the standard XP... maybe... but thats alot of work to just TEST this.

Slight concern, My CPU is running at 55c right now, hardly any load.... stock heatsink and fan..... Im testing this under SpeedFan. Possible screw up here?

Also Im installing my Mobos newest drivers VIA 4.55, AGP and INF drivers, along with some other shit.

55c idle is way too high. Get rid of the stock heatsink, man!

Do a fresh install of a PROPER windowsXP setup, install the Hyperions, then the AMD CPU drivers, then DirectX then ATI's (amd lol) Catalysts (oh yeah, install .NET framework first, too)

Install Crysis

Report back

XP Media Center with SP3 sound good? Ive got that on hand or a a regular XP with Sp2 Integrated. I think the CPU drivers are pointless since Im not using a 64 bit processor, mine wasnt listed even tho it installed.

Also where the hell can I get a Heatsink today? Im out of ideas, I know best buy doesnt have shit, MAYBE radio shack, I might just go and look.

Jesus - an XP? I'm surprised that it runs - the game engine somewhat expects SSE2, so i dont know if it'll even work without it. The minimum supported is a 2.8Ghz or higher - which means Athlon XP's just aren't upto the task. Athlon64 at minimum - and a Socket AM2 at that.

And your GPU is also barely able to play it - sure it ticks off all the features thats required, but it only has 40 shader processors.

To put it another way, i have two Radeon HD4850's with 800 shader processors each and i STILL don't break more than 28fps on average. Thats without AA or anything.

However, looking at your logfile, it looks as though it's initialising fine up to the point where it actually has to display the main menu, and falling down there because the files cannot be found.

Try a reinstall from scratch - and yes, make sure it's legit.

Oh and DX10 is a Vista only feature. No backwards hacks available.

Upgrade time, methinks.

Im upgrading soon but you didnt read the previous posts.

It RAN in Vista, whenI had it earlier this week, under DX9c, wouldnt even boot under DX10

My cpu is a 3200+ clocked at 2.2ghz techincally, but operates the output of a 3.2ghz speed.

I dont care if the game is in low settings, I just wanna try it out. Something odd is going on to make whats happening, happen.

Like I said, gets into the game, if I skip all the opening shit with spacebar, and it gets to where u see ur hands and ur skydiving, the guy on the radio starts to talk and wham, resets the PC. ANY part of the game I load, the second it has to render the people or anything directly related to INGAME, it fucks up.

I've seen this twice now. Do a google search; it takes about 10 seconds. People are working on DX10 for XP. Why? Because they hate Vista and want DX10. In the opinion of many people, the only reasons to upgrade to Vista are for DX10 and capability for more RAM, and many of them won't gimp their system for these features when XP runs fine at it's "limits". Just because it isn't an official release on the Microsoft website doesn't mean people aren't using it or it doesn't exist. That's like saying "Workstation 2008 doesn't exist. No forward hacks available".

That being said, the fact that it is an unsupported bastard-child mod of an official product for GAMING, and is working on a platform for which it was unintended from the get-go, would make me point fingers toward it when bad things started happening with games.

Normally I wouldn't recommend a fresh install, but if you deleted or modified the wrong files here and there when it comes to system files, you may have to invest a little time with a reinstall.

If you have things just how you like them and don't want to wipe that away, I would suggest disconnecting the hard drive and throwing another in there for your experiments. They are pretty cheap, and you don't need a high-capacity drive for an install of XP, drivers, essentials and a few games. Like I said, it will take a little time but if you have something else you can do while the installation takes place [and you intervene/guide it here and there when needed], it won't be so bad. Then you can disconnect the drive and put it away somewhere for experimenting later on; it can become your "control group".

Maybe I should of mentioned, or I think I did.. I have a custom DX10 install for XP, had it on the first try, had the same results.

I have alot of hard drives.. alot... and this version of XP is pre modified, I didnt do it myself... Im gonna try with XP Media Center see what happens.

This is just bugging the shit outta me, if all else fails... Im booting up Soldier of Fortune II and causing all fucking hell online, havent done that in a long time.
