Cruise control not operational

I'm taking a 1700 mile drive in a few weeks and my cruise control doesn'nt work. I'm willing to do it without cruise control but i'd rather not
The thing is, i remember hearing something about switching from automatic to a stick messing cruise control up, and i think my car miiight have been an auto before.
Anyone got any ideas?

It has to do with the neutral safety switch. If the CC ecu thinks the tranny is in neutral or park (or the clutch depressed) it won't function. Start by checking that. You can use the engine diagnostics or just measure that input on the CC box. Also run the CC diagnostics to check the sensors.
