Okay, so I did the "search" for a couple weeks... and observed the condition known as "blow turbo oil seals"... (rear seals... seeing as how the load on decel at vacuum would net the max white/bluish-tint smoke cloud...)

I believe mine were JUST starting to go... as it SAT for five years... totally idle. I think there were over 30k hard-charged 15lb miles on that thing.

Anyway... once I was convinced of the diagnosis...

I had to "think" about it a little... here I am "puzzling".

^^^ I start pulling stuff off... (spontaneously...)

p657700_3.jpg

...loosening band clamps...

p657700_5.jpg

p657700_6.jpg

p657700_7.jpg

p657700_8.jpg

...er... WAIT!!! Not the IC in the last two shots! We'll leave it on this round...

p657700_9.jpg

p657700_10.jpg

p657700_11.jpg

^^^ ...hmmmmmm... looking at my EGT probe... it is no WONDER the readings would jump erratically sometimes... (some "crusted" white shlit... perhaps going back to the BHG and later cracked head bleeding off toasted antifreeze...?)
I took some 400 grit to it and "polished" it down... (it works swell now!:biglaugh: )

p657700_12.jpg

^^^ OUT with the OLD!

p657700_13.jpg

...made it a point to inspect and clean THESE areas for the oil feed and drain.

p657700_14.jpg

^^^ There they are... BOTH CT-26 from TEC with "old school" T04b-type H3 trim spools... supposed to be rated around 380... my "G-tech" showed consistent 387/389/385 readings one day about 8 years ago when I first did some "poorly launched" pulls with it...

p657700_15.jpg

p657700_16.jpg

^^^ Pulling THIS one, which came LATER... but has around 30k+ hard miles of spooling on it... PLUS the cracked head issue for a couple years... notice the "crusted white" from the "cooked" antifreeze...:3d_frown:

^^^ EDIT! FUEL related discoloration... per IJ. below! (Thank you.)

p657703_2.jpg

^^^ This is the one I HAD on it about a decade ago... I "MIS-DIAGNOSED" it to be "faulty", and swapped it with an IDENTICAL (mostly... except intake machine work...) H3 from TEC... and then found the GASKET on the EX MANI side was "bleeding through", causing the funny "pfffffffffffffffffttttt!!!!" noise AND loss of boost and POWER! DOH!!!!!:nono: )

...on the OTHER hand... A SPARE!!!!!!:evil2:

p657703_3.jpg

...I swapped over the "criticals"...

p657703_4.jpg

..."prepped" the area a little...

p657703_5.jpg

...arranged my resources... (sorta:icon_conf )

p657703_6.jpg

^^^ With PRICEY gaskets like these THIS clean... (it was a "fresh build" when it got "Rip-Van-Winkled" some five years ago...) you can just CLEAN THEM OFF and RE-USE them. (I know... some of you are FROWNING!)

p657703_7.jpg

...The TSRM is quite PARTICULAR about SOME gasket orientation... hmmmm...

Note the "tab" in the upper left hand corner... (HEAVY duty anti-seize on all threads btw...)

p657703_8.jpg

...er... they MUST know what they are talking about...

p657703_9.jpg

^^^ UNTIL you try to REDIAL your damned SPOOL!!!! (PER the MANUAL!)

HA HA HA!!! ( I know... RADIAL PLAY...)

p657703_10.jpg

^^^ Here it is ready to drop in...

p657703_11.jpg

...engine bay is missing a piece...

p657703_12.jpg

PLOP it into it's home...

p657703_13.jpg

(I actually RE-USED MOST of the fasteners... they had LOW MILES but SAT for so long... there was corrosion. I cleaned everything with carb cleaner, wiped them off, saturated them with WD-40 "FISH OIL" spray... wiped off excess from threads... then liberally applied some heavy duty anti-seize. BOTH nuts and studs.)

p657703_14.jpg

...I've never tried the WRAP before... a little TRICKY as an "afterthought"... but it ended up a pretty "snug" little turbo in a blanket...:1zhelp:

Well... perhaps a photo in the morning... as it got too dark for a "finished" shot at the time...

The "White" is from the fuel not antifreeze many Turbines look just like that without a BHG.

Nice pics thanks for posting.

Thanks for clearing that up! I didn't know for sure, as the OTHER one never had "white" coloration.

Is it indicative of a "lean" mixture? (Or inherent to some other factor...)

Appreciate any technical insights... I started with this thing over a dozen years ago... and until I joined here a few weeks back, I've never had any counsel on the car but my own experimentation...:icon_conf

...glad I found the forum!:biglaugh:

Pretty sure it's something in the fuel that causes it Crisp.

Blendzall... MMT... or Nitromethane additives???:evil2:

...heh heh heh...

btw... I have straight pipe... and yes, it's a little smelly.:nono:

(I'm wanting "stealth"... so the HKS Drager it is...:naughty: )

^^^ Well, it's back together! Over an HOUR of 14-15psi ROMPING around the countryside at triple digit speeds on the spool.... and NO SMOKE! (Except for that "proverbial turbo fart" from a sudden HAMMER DOWN... that is... heh heh heh... and that smoke is BLACK!:naughty: )

Drove it in to work today... 90* out... and drove it HARD at lunch to show a buddy... looks like my oil-burning-blown-turbo-seal-white-w/bluish-tint cloud is GONE DADDY GONE!

...yay...

I know, I know... the 90's are calling... they want their RED PAINT back!

(I'd powder coat everything BLACK or something but I needed to get it right up and running for kicks and giggles... we'll do the cosmetics another day.:nono: )
