Injectors are probably for an RX7.
Your car is a rolling musuem Crisp, Can you explain what some of the electronics do?
The GCC and the SBC always confused me
YES!
The GCC allows for "trim" adjustment of your air/fuel ratio at FIVE preset RPM points, which can also can be VARIED to RPM points that YOU select via DIP switches in the back of the unit for tremendous flexibility. The adjustment allows for -12% to +16% over/under "baseline" fuel delivery curve. The units can be adjusted to "trim" based on five preset BOOST PRESSURE levels as well for some applications, but with my VPC, they are RPM based trim points only. This allows for A/R "tuning" without a laptop or other "complicated" stand alone system. Naturally, a Wideband or IPM (injection pulse monitor) are helpful for this tuning. (I'm getting the NGK PowerDex WB within the next couple weeks to help with that... and HOPE to add the IPM soon as well!)
The SBC is a VERY RARE UNIT these days! (ESPECIALLY the EARLY FIRST ITERATION that you see pictured here!) My unit is actually an ORIGINAL OFF-THE-SHELF NEW IN BOX component, that got "lost" at HKS for 10 years! (Can you say "Rip-Van-Boost"?)
The SBC allows you to PRESET a MAXIMUM VALUE of "overboost" (beyond whatever pressure level your EVC swing valve is set to) up to 200% or something of your initial max setting. If your EVC BOOST control is set to MAX at 10psi, then when you hit the "TRIG" or "TRIGGER" button on the SBC, it will allow the boost to JUMP UP to some level above that 10psi. For example, if the SBC is set at 150%, you would jump to 15psi... or at 120% to 12psi, etc... The SBC is also equipped with a TIMER function, where this BOOST JUMP or "SCRAMBLE BOOST" level is ONLY active for a preset duration, anywhere from a FEW seconds, to a "minute" or more? (forgot the "max" time value... and don't have the lit in front of me...) This way, you can be set up to drive at "reasonable" and SAFE boost levels for your "normal" driving, then when you need a sudden SCRAMBLE, you just hit the "TRIG" button (a REMOTE button with looooong lead to allow mounting near your shifter, left hand armrest by the door, steering wheel stem, center console, etc... where you can easily HIT IT without reaching around or otherwise hampering your focus on DRIVING the vehicle. It's like hitting a NOS-SHOT button! HYPERDRIVE for the SUPRA!) There is a neat little "gimmicky" feature where you can turn an "alarm" on so it BEEPS rapidly in a "soft tone" when you hit the TRIGGER until the timer is "up". If you need MORE MAX boost, you just HIT it again, or during the timer countdown and it keeps repeating until you let the timer lapse. VERY NIGHTRIDER like. Makes me feel like Han Solo in the Millenium Falcon! GREAT for sudden boost "allowance" that LIMITS the DURATION and LEVEL of boost you are "authorizing" so you don't "overdo" it in your FAST-N-FURIOUS scramble to "race" someone... manual boost dialing is "risky" at best, and CONTINUOUS boosting to UPPER THRESHOLDS is also a recipe for disaster. The SBC gives you PREDETERMINED and CAREFULLY CALCULATED maximum threshold values for LIMITED duration so you can HAVE it when you WANT it, without the RISK of getting TOO GREEDY!:evil2:
Of course, there are other interesting "graphical" features, such as the dial faces glowing GREEN when the unit is NOT activated, and then switching to RED when it's ACTIVE! COOL STUFF!
Here's another shot of the SBC...
^^^ As far as I'm concerned, this ORIGINAL style SBC is like the "HOLY GRAIL" of HKS products! I'll post more pics once it's all dialed in and properly mounted... (maybe even a shot of it's TEMPORARY rigging for that matter...:biglaugh: )
