Creaking clutch pedal. Spray lube doesn't help. What now??

My clutch pedal creaks loudly when moved within the top freeplay, before it engages the clutch. I sprayed lots of spray lube on all moving joints, and nothing changed. I disconnected the plunger rod of the master cylinder and it still creaked so it's not related to that. I loosened the top pivot bolt a bit and no change.

I'm starting to wonder if it is something in the return spring mechanism and the white plastic parts of it. I am tempted to cut and remove the the spring assembly, since it looks like it is riveted on, and also it is impossible to disconnect without removing the entire assembly. What if I did this, and simply adjusted the clutch pedal freeplay higher, so it rests on the hydraulic part? Any risks?

Anyone else have this maddening problem? Any other solutions I could try?

I don't remember how the whole assembly is put together, but if it's friction I think the best you're going to do is to find the trouble spot, sand and buff it smooth as possible and then lube the hell out of it with a good moly or teflon lubricant.

don't do that...

Put some axel grease on the spring and everything it touches...spray lube doest stick and dries up...some grease will fix it...if you adjust all the free play out then you may cook your throwout bearing.

Mine creaks too, but I haven't done anything to try and fix it yet. I was just gonna put some kind of grease on all the moving bits.

What can I say, I have to buy at least one every time I pass that aisle at Costco! Might at well put em' to use.

If I replaced it every time it creaked, I'd be gaining on your 7M shenanigans!

just take out the drivers seat...makes life easy! I wouldn't remove the pedal just lay on your back and smear some Vaseline or grease of sorts all over the spring and anything the spring touches...vaseline is nice but I think the heat from the floor vents will melt it...I'd use grease myself but my whole car smells of cigs and transmission fluid anyway LOL

What spray lube did you use?

If you use spray lithium grease, it sprays like a penetrating oil, but then turns into grease. Just make sure you aim well...

I recently had and fixed this problem. I originally tried the grease on spring method, no good. I then purchased a can of CRC white lithium grease and sprayed everything I could, ( What a damn mess).

Even with all this lubricant smeared all over it it still creaked like a damn old rocking chair. So I decided there was no ( Easy) fix. I was wrong. I used one hand to depress pedal and the other to feel each pivot point on the assembly.
My creak was coming from the lower spring pivot point, so I used a small screwdriver to gain a little bit of room to spray around the pin. Wa la !! Creak gone...( For Now ). BTW I ended up using WD 40 on that pivot point, seems the white lithium would not penetrate the area well.
