:1zhelp: Just got my scraper and I was wondering who's installed one and if there's anything specific I should look for, know about?

And what is the absolutely best sealant to use as a FIPG for the pan/scraper combo? Thanks, Eric

The Toyota FPIG is very good :bigthumb:

Cool, I'm headed out to get some of that. Any Idea if there's an issue with the gaps at the ends of the block where the scraper does not lay? and I can assume that I put FIPG on both sides of the scaper, right?

I didn't use a scraper, but it does make sense to use FIPG on both sides. I'd definately check the crank shaft clearances through a full rotation with the scraper...don't forget to leave the #1 piston at DTC. That's critical for installing the CPS later on.

Maybe someone else will chime in on the oil pan/block gap the scrape will have on that half of the block.

When I installed my crankscraper I used pieces of the cork gasket to fill in the gaps at both ends (along with a healthy dose of fipg), it still leaked, though not badly. My scraper required a bit of grinding to make it clear the counter weights, no big deal if you have a grinder or compressor and airtools.

Use a small layer of FIPG and lay the scraper down. Tighten it and allow it to set up for a bit. Then, go over it again with a normal layer as if it weren't there, just paying careful attention to the ends, filling a bit more there, and then place the pan on. You should have NO leaks, and NO CORK!

hey eric, sorry i missed your call earlier today. i was still asleep, as i work from 7pm-5am. :( i left you a voicemail, though.

the way i'd do it, would be to lay it on, check clearance for the rotating assembly, put a thin layer of toyota FIPG down on the pan mating surface (which is now the scraper mating surface) making sure to go around the bolt holes so no oil seeps out through there, then lay the scraper on, (after the FIPG starts to set).

then do the same on the top of the scraper, as if it were the pan mating surface, and wait again til it's about to set, (tacky, but not super gooey) and do the same, then torque down the pan. :)

I come from a land down under
I use an Ishihara-Johnson Scraper in my motor as seen in the pic.

I pretty well do as the guys are saying but you DON'T get a lot of time with the FIPG before it tacks off so you need to have EVERYTHING ready to go in one hit!

Run a bead of FIPG smear it across the Block Rail with a finger leaving it thick lay the scraper down repeat FIPG on the scraper, I used 4 x 1mm washers on the holes in the front timing case cover and the rear seal cover sticking them in place with the FIPG so the pan has something to bottom on without deforming.

Hadn't thought of throwing some washers on there, that's great! No sealing probs, huh? This ROCKS. With this in place my engine rebuild WILL BEGIN!!!!!!HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH (um Schaef wanna help out on Sat?)

I have a slight leak at the back as I took too long to assemble and bolt it down on a hot day in summer :(

I'll correct this soon and chuck a set of rings at it while I have it apart just to freshen it up as it's been on the dyno a lot since it was built (Not to mention me thrashing it repeatedly ;))

Good luck with the build!
