Well it's been a year and a half since I touched a motor. Been in Korea, and I'm rebuilding. I forgot to losen the SOB pulley bolt before I pulled the motor. I'm considering using the flywheel bolts into the crank, and holding it with a bar, and someone turning the crank bolt. Any other ideas, please please post. Thanks.

There are a couple methods that work well.

1. Pull the oilpan and brace the crank against the block with some wood.
2. Bolt a chain to the flywheel bolts, then bolt the other end to the engine stand.

When I changed my timing belt I got the top of the line air Engesoll Rand 1/2" impact wrench just to pull the bolt off since my no name one didn't do it. I figure I could get 720+ ft-lbs of reverse torque using my air compressor. And it still didn't do anything. So I got a breaker bar, put it on the bolt and stood the end of the bar on the ground and hit the starter.
So if you get an air wrench, think 3/4" or bigger.
Good luck.

The only method that ever worked for me (with the engine outside of the car) is the old 2 X 4 stuck in between the crank and the block.

You are all quick to post! I wish I had read this sooner.

I got the darn thing off, and ruined one of my tranny bolts (bent) in doing so. So... does anyone have any extra transmission bolts laying around, or could someone lead me to a few?

I realize now, that I have to post in a different section with that particulat request, but any and all help is appreciated, as I am going back to Korea on July 28, and I'd love to have my motor up and strapped on the dyno before that time.

Your best bet is ACE Hardware, go in there with one of your other tranny bolts and get something with the same thread/pitch/size.
