Hello, Bit of a problem. I'm doing all the timing case seals and the key that fits in the crank and lines up the damper is messed up I think. I Can put the key in the crank and it's loose then I put the damper on and it can move maybe 2 teeth (can only judge on timing gear behind it). Is this normal? The key itself looks like a slope with a ridge on one side and perfectly flat on the other side.

SS: It should be square on the ends so no slop/play isn't normal it's a sign that it wasn't done up to the 197 ft/lbs required!

It may have shagged the keyway in the Balancer as well as worn the crank snout (should be a tight slip fit).

Alright, Thanks IJ, your response time is amazing :p

The crank itself still looks square and it's a new damper going on it now. I'm going to hit up a local engine shop hoping they have one.

SS: You're welcome I'm just kicking back this afternoon surfing around a bit ;)

Just remember to double check the fit and finish of the Snout to Balancer when you're reassembling it.
(as well as 197 ft/lbs is damn tight)
