Yeasterday I've deinstalled my CT-26 (with huge shaft play), and saw, that it is cracked. There is a big chasm between wastegate window and turbo wheel window. Also it has crack inside hot input...

Could this be the cause of no boost?

And another ?: I see already second cracked CT-26 - does they have just bad construction or cracking means some kind of problems with engine?

PS: I'm gonna to buy used SS stage 3 turbo (with low mileage) - does it reliable enough? is not it complete shit? ;-)

Thanks!

Yes this could cause basically a massive exhaust pressure leak which might result in no boost. Most CT-26's I've seen do not have that crack, it appears to be related to excessive boost/excessive time boosting. Anything that will overheat the turbo to where it's glowing red will tend to crack it. It could also be caused by running lean, clogged cats, or running excessive ignition timing.

Three out of three turbos I have seen have cracks.
Also from talking to a turbo rebuilder, I was told that most of the CT-26's that are sent in for upgrades are also cracked.
I always thought it was very normal for the CT-26's.

Cracks appear around the wastegate
&
and in the exhaust snail. From my experiences: when you look in you will see it right in the middle towards the center.

As far as you getting NO boost at all...you must have huge cracks (if not breaks) to get nothing, I would think. My original turbo was cracked at the wastegate (maybe like 3 cracks there) and in the snail, and I still had boost.

what about these common cracks being stress cracks, like from not having the supports on the turbo and exhaust manifold in place?
