well, my radiator is cracked and going to be replaced soon, but it got me thinking. If the radiator is cracked that means the entire system is losing pressure right? So even a small leak in a radiator could cause overheating possibly after a long drive, as it loses pressure gradually. Am i correct in thinking this or is the water pump continually rebuilding that pressure?

Your water pump isn't building pressure, it's only flowing the coolant. Your pressure is a result of the coolant getting hot and if you have a cracked radiator eventually you won't have any coolant left depending on how big that crack is. Sounds like your overheating is being caused by a couple of things and the major contributor is your radiator. Letting air in the system and loss of coolant. Get a new radiator.

+3500+

If I wouldnt have tryed "fixing" the crack and risked overheating the car I would still be driving around the 7m and I would be about 4k richer rite now.

So...REPLACE it!!! Its getting hot out and your going to end up overheating the car before the stock temp gauge has time to react, and once it happens your 7m is most likely not long for this world.
