just wondering is it hard replacing the cps on our cars? my car been acting funny...rpms go crazy and the engine dies..feels like the car misfires..bogs and this happens after i let it sit over night...after i start up the car when i wake up and drive off..i hear poping noise and my rpm's drop..then the rpms go crazy and the car bogs..and eventually dies..when it dies i pop it in gear to give it a jump start and same thing happens..rpms go crazy.

after it dies on a stop..i try to turn it back on..it bogs and dies..even if i try to give it gas..theres no response car still dies

ive talked to some people on the forum..some say its a vaccum leak..some say its my cps..i got the code 14 if that helps

The CPS is fairly easy to change. Loosen the PS Res bracket and pull it out of the way and you should be able to pull it out. Removing adjacent hoses and such makes it easier though... And of course you'll have to check timing after a CPS is replaced.

Consult your friendly TSRM for details on CPS replacement.

I would do some more troubleshooting before you just go and change something you think it might be. That could get costly and time consuming.

14 is an Ignition Signal code.

It sounds like a possible igniter ground problem to me.

yah thats what my buddy on the forum said also..what do you think i should do???

Suggest finding the grounds in your motor bay and making sure there is no corrosion, and also make sure they're not loose.

Check your cps with an ohm meter and make sure its with in specs. Check Your connection on the harness and cps side and make sure its good. The cps connector on the harness and cps have a tendency to go bad and you get the "Jiggle the wire syndrome". Good luck

The engine bay grounds have nothing to do with the igniter....it grounds through it's case. The problem is the igniter case is not a very effective ground...here is a thread for a proper igniter ground:

Here is an excellent "how to" for testing the igniter:

Mk3 - Suggest you start with this.
