hey, i just installed my cps i found out when i pulled it out, the o-ring was hard and brittle, so i decided to change the o-ring, after starting it up, it still smokes, could the cps itself leak?
Its not uncommon for them to leak from the bearing/oil seal thats inside the unit. Then the oil pools inside and drips down through the cap and rubber gasket. If you take off the cap, are the internals oily?
Get the kit. Rebuild your CPS. No more oil burning. Bend the tabs on the roll pin after you install the new pin, I used a flaring tool. Or just get/make a new pin 4mm x 17.25mm.
i used that rebuild kit when i did my headgaskit job worked like a charm only thing is the external oring that comes with the kit is the wrong size so you may wanna get another one from toyota cause the book says to replace it every time you remove it...
heres the link on how to rebuild it http://www.supramania.com/forums/content.php?130-CPS-Rebuild-(56k-keep-playing-your-PS2)
i bought that kit recently, stopped my leaking cps the only other piece i bought from toyota was the larger gasket that is between the cps and the cover
Years back when I bought my car I had a phantom oil leak and it was none other than the CPS, do as the others say above and buy a rebuild kit. Quick and easy..Best of luck to you!
