Couple of questions about linkages and such.

I seem to remember reading a while back(although I can't find it with a search) that you can remove the throttle linkage and use an N/A throttle cable with a custom mount. My turbo no longer has cruise, a/c and a bunch of other stuff and I'm trying to clean up the engine bay. What is the method for removing this bracket, and what is the closest thing to a bracket to hold the cable...

Anyone done this? I just want to do this for a while till I get my FFIM. I'm planning on relocating my coil packs anyhow.

The throttle bodies are in totally different places, the brackets mount in the exact same positiong, and you would gain nothing by switching. You can remove the cruise control cable but that's about it. I wouldn't even worry about it if you've got a FFM in the works.

I'm not talking about using the N/A linkage. I'm talking about looping the cable around and making a bracket to use only the throttle cable with no linkage.

I don't think that Shaeff used the linkage though, Jake.
I believe he just ran the cable to a point, then it went to the TB.
IIRC hoseclamps were involved :icon_razz

You'd still need some sort of bracket. The throttle body needs to be pulled towards the passenger side to open up, while the cable can only provide a pulling towards the driver side motion. You could loop it around something or make your own bracket, but the N/A setup wouldn't help you.

I got to looking at it last night closely. I can remove the entire linkage assembly from the throttle body and use a cable type linkage from a celica TB. There is an unused bolt hole on that side of the TB, and one on the head in the same area. I have already drawn up my idea for a throttle cable bracket, and I think this will work nicely. When I get done, I'll be sure to do a writeup.

New Question: Is the N/A throttle cable the same length or longer than the turbo?

LOL I said "hoseclamps were involved" ;)
