cooling system pressure.

my car isnt overheating..
but i have large amounts of pressure in the cooling system.. my hose from the pump to the radiator is incredibly bloated. when i squeeze it, it feels intensely pressurized. the radiator is warm, but not hot, same with the pump.

i had previous cooling issues when i lived in 110 degree weather, but since then i moved to the coast where its a constant 50-65 degrees, and the car doesnt overheat here.

any ideas?

its not a BHG i promise. I just did a HG job 2k ago with a 2mm metal gasket, arp studs torqued to 85..

its running awesome though.. no signs of bhg... no overflow tank activity, no bubbling sounds.

that happened when i needed to replace the hose it was getting old and bloated... should be the same for every coolant hose in your car

its new hoses... even if it were old hoses, theres not supposed to be significant amounts of pressure when the engine is cool.

I rebuilt my 7m and about 2000mi into it, the coolant system was running at unusually high pressures. I kept trying things left and right while denying that it was the head gasket. But it didn't quit until I replaced the HG.
Not saying that's it, but don't shut out the possibility.

Replace the radiator cap. 12.7 PSI or .9 Bar.

And dont get one of those shitty ones with the pressure release tab, they tend to fail alot.


It might also be a good idea to check your thermostat, maybe its not opening as it should.

Ah shit...I just bought one of those CST rad caps with a pressure release feature. It's still rated at 13 PSI though.
