Well, I posted before about my car overheating when stopped w/ engine off... and how i could hear air in the lines (rushing water in the dash).. so I replaced my rad cap, and burped the system.. problem still there... I then took my car to Midas, and they pressure tested the cooling system, and fixed a leaking upper rad hose... pressure held just fine.. Well, I get my car back from the shop and I can now hear a constant flow of rushing water/air through my dash... not intermittent like it was before. But no coolant leaks... so I figure, ok maybe the air that was trapped in the heater core just needs to get out...

so after driving it a little bit (to and from work), on my way home the sound stops (leaked a bit of coolant while I was at work)... then my temp gauge would go way up, but not quite to the red.. then I would hear a rush of coolant/air, and it would go back down to 1/3 - 1/2 way up the gauge... It did this about 3 or 4 times on the 5 minute drive home...

So what is going on with my car? I think the rad fan might be faulty... and my thermostat might be going... but that doesnt explain the air in my lines still... help?

well, not constantly, but when it does go up it goes back down really quickly (usually)... sometimes it stays up near the read for a 30 seconds, then I put the clutch in and rev the engine a little and you hear the coolant start to move and it goes back down... but ya, it goes up really quick... like way faster than it could actually heat up.

My car used to have the very same problem and i replaced everything and tried everything and at last I just kept driving it and some lovely day I woke up and checked my oil in the morning and it was milky as hell..So my friend It is a BHG I donno how but when I pressure tested my cooling system at the time it was holding and not leaking at all but somehow it turned out that it's a bhg but it's not messed up completly it'll hold mine held for like 2 mounths until it made milk. But my advise is to fix it now before it mixes with oil cause after I fixed mine it got rod-knock after i fixed it.

EDIT: Are you sure that you're hearing water boiling in your heater core? Cause my red supra's temp gauge used to spike up to the red and comes to normal sometimes and the car in not overheating and it turned out that the instrument temp gauge wire is shorting to the body of the car while moving and that causes the gauge to go all the way up and when it disconnects from the body it goes back to normal just a thought check that too :-D

First thing to do is replace the thermostat and burp the cooling system. If it still does it then it probably is a BHG. It is how it started on my Supra several years ago and it just happened on my Cressida. The gasket holds well enough to keep the water in and at the low pressure the cooling system sits at (about 13 psi I believe) but it cant keep out the pressure of the combustion. Now you have exhaust gasses entering the cooling system and pushing the water out of the overflow.

PS. when it went on the Supra, because of the placement of the water temp sensor it did not read that it overheated, was just high.

well, no more rushing water sound :) (could be cause it's fairly low on coolant right now.. but the resevoir sayts full)... guess the rad cap did it's job... but it is now leaking coolant from somewhere around the thermostat... havent changed anything ont he car yet.. going to get a new clutch for the fan and a new thermostat, see if that clears up my overheating (fan barely blows at all)... and need to find that leak.

oh... and I am willing to bet money it's the head gasket... I know it problably is.. but it's my dad, my mechanics teacher, and a couple of my car savy friends who are telling me otherwise...

Nothing to add but I would figure overheating is a common problem in Baghdad?
Yeah, those AK rounds thru the radiator will do it every time
Yeah that and the crazy weather I have a temprature gauge in my car it reads today 50C which's 122F heh bet the car overheats no matter what and it reachs around 55-60C whichs 131-140F in july-august :biglaugh:
