:icon_evil :icon_evil hi
just rebuilt my engine due to pressure in coolant system checked with h/gasket tester and combustion gasses were getting in coolant causing it to pressurise.
so had block and head skimmed and now fitted new rod bearing mains oil pump forged pistons etc
car was running fine and then drove it up road (gently) and engine started misfiring and now coolant is blowing out of top up bottle and pressurising the system again
any ideas??? surley it cant be h/gasket again as i replaced it with 2mm copper one and arp head stud kit
no water in the oil just pressure in the system HELP!!!!!!

its blowing out of the resovoir?

it could be vacuum leaks in the intake manifold.. or your hose connections..

no

for that to happen the water would have to have gone through the cast iron CHRA. Doubt that is the cause. Though did you pressure check the radiator while you had the engine apart?

hi head studs were talked to 80lb/feet radiator is new ,water pump is new, thermostat and gasket new.the turbo is worn on the bearings not excessively but it has done about 120000 miles. so i cant see what it can be unless the head/block hasnt been done correctly?? to be honest im a bit pissed off at the mo,the joys of the supra.

Try the block tester again, can't hurt.

You said COPPER head gasket? The only copper ones I am aware of require you to O-ring the block... which comes with it's own list of issues. Do you know the brand of gasket that you used?

You could have a cracked block or head - did you have either one magnafluxed while it was out for the head gasket change?

no i didnt get them tested for cracks however there is no water in the oil just pressure in the system i thought normally with cracked blocks etc you get emulsification of the oil

i didn;t have any oil in mine when I was doing the valve seals. Then as soon as I put air to the 3rd cylinder it started spitting out coolant out the thermostat housing. So your problem may lie in you head. My bowl had a hair line crack in the 3rd combustion chamber. You should of gotten it checked out to be honest cause you never know.

true true , however i think the comment might be true about the copper head gasket according to all the information i have found on copper head gaskets i either need o rings or snap rings to stop the combustion gasses leaking into the the coolant which no one metioned when i purchased the gasket.I have emailed hussy to see what they say

the way you explained it, it seems that you think it will be OK just because you used a 2mm copper head gasket and ARP studs.

The prep work done beforehand is INFINATELY more important than what type of head gasket/bolts you use. If it wasnt clean, smooth and flat to begin with you will always have problems.

that's probably your problem. (you dont receive o-rings, you need the head o-ringed. ((and maybe the block, though dont quote me on that)) )

if you used a copper gasket and didnt get the motor o-ringed, you're probably burning coolant and oil and whatnot.

just to let you know i stripped the head off to check and the water was leaking around cylinder one and i found the problem.when i had my block and head skimmed i forgot to get the front cover skimmed. which meant that the copper head gasket was being raised at the front and being 2mm thick with no "give" this has caused it to leak.all sorted now cheers for your advice
