The car: 1989 Turbo 5 Speed

I have done a lot of searching and read a lot of things and still having problems.

Here is what I have replaced or is new.

New Radiator
New Thermostat
New Radiator Cap

No Coolant Leaks.
The temp gauge comes up nice and slow and stays at a nice even temp.
The car runs good.

Here is what is going on.

When I first start up the car I hear that gurgling sounds, once the car is warmed up the upper hose is very tight as in lots of pressure and as I drive the car it likes to blow out coolant. I recently blurped the car to try and get out all the air which I thought could cause all these problems it was no help at first the gurgling problem got better but was still there and when I had the heat on there was always heat before blurping I would only have heat when the car was revved up at stop lights it would go cold, I'm guessing cause there was so much air in the system that it wasn't going through the heater core. The gurgling wasn't as bad but it still builds up way to much pressure and I'm always having to add coolant. The Oil has no coolant in it. It doesn't steam out the tailpipe. The car runs good and doesn't get hot, though it’s been cold so not sure what it will do once it gets warmer outside.

I suppose it could be a BHG but I want to exhaust all other options before replacing this.

when i had a BHG, the only symptoms i had were coolant blowing out of the overflow, and fluctuating temps. I had high & even comp #'s i had no watery oil and no exhaust smoke. The car temp would only fluctuate on long drives when the coolant would get low in the radiator. And this only occured when the BHG got REALLY bad.

Do a leakdown test or a compression test and see if that says anything. It could be something simple like a small leaky hose thats sucking air in or something.

Mine did exactly the same thing, and I bought the same exact parts. I was in denial. Napa Auto parts sells a emission gas tester that "sniffs" combustable gasses in the coolant. This test confirmed my fears---BHG.

Good luck

I just bought the car and was wondering why I got a good deal on it....guess I know how. Oh well, needed to be done anyway I want to turn up the boost but knew it would be the end of it without it replaced.

How much did this tester cost?

Now that it has blown a bunch of coolant back out I know there is air in the system. I'm pretty sure it's a BHG, I will have it tested soon and once it gets warmer replace the HG and get some ARP's so I don't have to worry about it again. Also be a good time to replace all seals and get the engine bay and engine all cleaned up.
