Coolant loss

hey

did some searching and couldn't really find what i was after.

im losing a very very small amount of coolant.

as in i have to top off my overflow tank every so often...maybe like 2 a month if that and its not very much.

now im not blowing any smoke. there is no air in my system from what i can see nor is my temp gauge moving from its norm. it sits just below the middle and won't budge no matter how i drive it.

my overflow tank doesn't seem to over flow very much unless the engine is warm (but i gather that's normal). it will only go just above the fill line sometimes but will go back down always. there are no obvious puddles of coolant around. could it be evaporating?

my question is...where else should i look...should i be doing a compression test to see if i have the early signs of a bhg? i always figured a bhg would be a for more noticeable effect.

thanks in advance

My car did that for 7 years. It was the beginnings of a BHG.

But.... first, you should check all your coolant hoses for leaks, especially crusty deposits at the fittings indicating a slow leak.

I think that you should do a compression test because I was going to do that to my Supra, but just right before I got the tool to do it, it had a BHG:biglaugh: because the car was running like crap and I had coolant comming out of my exhaust. So just check your compression and see what you are getting.
