I had the same problem for a bit. Then I put in a Glow Shift temp sensor on the top hose..... Now the stock gauge is working fine and the GS one hasn't worked since install. And yes everything is wired correctly. I am thinking not enough fluid for the sensor to read.....but wouldn't that also make the stock sensor not read correct?
Sorry OP..... not trying to post jack, but I have a similar problem.
i think i fixed the problem, i took off the radiator cap and heard a lot of air escape and the let the car run for a while with the cap off and topped off the coolant the problem was probably an air pocket, and radiator was low on coolant problem hasnt occurred since =]
