Coolant and Cooling issue

I was driving my 1989 Supra Turbo tonight and was driving it pretty hard. So the engine was pretty hot. When I got home I noticed my temperature gauge start to rise (Note: It was normal temp all while i was driving). So I popped the hood and I see coolant and steam spewing out of my coolant overflow tank via the little hose :1zhelp: What is wrong with my car? Could it be a thermostat? I have no clue... Help me please.
Maybe a Rad Cap? Hopefully, because what I've been reading kinda points me toward BHG. No other symtoms of BHG though...

Well first, go cheap.

Replace the radiator cap and try again. See if the problem persists.

Second, do a compression test, and a leak down test.

Third, do a coolant system pressure test.

You're BHG will show up in one of those...

Try the rad cap 1st...could be the hoses, radiator itself or thermostat as well. If any air gets into the system, it will displace coolant. Do the simple things first...get the coolant system pressure tested to determine if you have a leak some where.

Edit: Beat me to it MDC!

Mine did exactly the same the gauge won't show anything but when you open the hood you see steam\coolant going out of the overflow and it keeps going even if you turn the car off I changed the radiator cap and it's gone

In mine opinion its a BHG, my symphtoms ware absolutely the same ;)

I second this opinion.

But I did all the cheap things first. Rad cap, thermostst, fan clutch, then radiator. Still had symptoms of blowing coolant from overflow tank.

Went to buddy's shop and used block test kit--Napa sells them.
It test coolant for combustable gasses.

Well it was a bhg.

Hopefully you will "luck-out" with one over the cheaper and much easier solutions to your problem.

So I went and got a radiator cap, put it on, went down the street....White Smoke and the engine is running real choppy. :3d_frown: This is frickin two days after I bought the car...The funny thing is that I knew about all the Bhg problems with theses cars so I bought one that had 7000 mi. on a rebuilt engine. Hopefully the engine isn;t to badly damaged yet..
Is it possible that the engine internals are unharmed?

YES PLEASE DO NOT DRIVE THE CAR! You will smoke the main bearings becase water is going to start appearing in the oil pan. Oil floats on water - water hits your main bearings - main bearings have no lubrication - you now go from BHG to rod knock.

So, drain all the fluids both water and oil, and do a head service. Its actually quite simple, and you can have it done in an afternoon if you have the patience.
